Help clients explore special enrollment opportunities

February 10, 2017

New Mexicans who don’t have health insurance or who experience changes in their lives that can affect their coverage may not be aware of special enrollment.
Special enrollment allows eligible New Mexicans to sign up for health insurance on the Exchange outside of the open enrollment period. Special enrollment may also allow those already enrolled but who’ve experienced certain life events to change coverage. Eligible events include:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Childbirth or adoption
  • Death in the family
  • Loss of employer-sponsored health insurance
  • A change in financial status that may affect eligibility for subsidies

Note about Native Americans: Tribal members don’t need to wait for open enrollment or a special enrollment event. They can enroll in health insurance coverage through the Exchange at any time during the year. View more information for Native Americans.
