beWellNM, New Mexico’s Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) is pleased to announce that Eva Jean Fomalont will be joining its board of directors. Fomalont will provide a valuable addition to the NMHIX board, bringing more than 29 years of professional experience, the majority in the New Mexico insurance industry.

As Vice President of Sales at BenefitSource, Eva Jean Fomalont’s background includes leadership positions with Lovelace Health Plan, Delta Dental and Presbyterian. “I am confident Ms. Fomalont’s background and experience working in New Mexico’s health insurance industry will provide a valuable contribution to our board,” said Dr. J.R. Damron, NMHIX board chairman. “New Mexico’s insurance brokers and agents continue to be an important driver of success for the Exchange, and I am pleased Ms. Fomalont will bring her vast experience of working with these valuable groups.”

Fomalont has served as an officer or committee member of different organizations including current Chair of the Continuing Education Committee New Mexico Department Insurance, Secretary of Daughters of Penelope of American Hellenic, Executive Leadership Committee American Heart Association Circle of Red, and National President on the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Health Underwriters. Additionally she was the recipient of the National Association of Health Underwriters Gordon Memorial Award, which recognizes the “Person of the Year” in the health industry.

In 2013, The New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange Act formed the NMHIX, and a board of directors was appointed. Pursuant to Section 59A-23F-3 NMHIX 1978 of the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange Act, Fomalont has been appointed to the NMHIX board of directors by the New Mexico Speaker of the House of Representatives and will represent a “health insurance issuer” until June 30, 2017. Fomalont will fill the seat previously occupied by Dr. Martin Hickey of New Mexico Health Connections. Dr. Hickey had served on the NMHIX board since April 2013.

“We gratefully thank Dr. Hickey for his contributions and service to New Mexico as a director on the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange board,” said Dr. Damron. “I look forward to working with Ms. Fomalont in the weeks and months ahead as we continue our mission to provide access to high-quality, affordable health insurance coverage for New Mexicans.”
