Do you live in New Mexico? Do you need a health plan? You’re in the right place! If you’re not covered by Medicaid or Medicare and you don’t have an affordable health plan through work, you can get health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) makes it possible for more Americans to get health insurance. The law puts limits on the costs you have to pay and protects your rights to get health insurance and health care for you and your family.
New Mexico residents can compare health plans and learn more at beWellnm.com. Depending on your income, you may be able to get help in paying for health insurance.
Family members can be covered, too.
Your children can also get health insurance through the Marketplace.
I have a current health problem. Can I buy health insurance?
Yes, you can still purchase health insurance — even with a health condition. No insurer can refuse to cover you or charge you more based on current or past health problems.
What documents do I need?
You will need proof of identity, proof that you live in the state and your legal status or citizenship. These items will also be needed if you require financial help to pay for insurance. View a quick checklist of what you need to enroll.
Can immigrants buy health insurance?
If you are not a U.S. citizen, but you have permission to live or work in the United States, you can buy a plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace. People who don’t have citizenship paperwork and children who are considered “deferred action childhood arrivals” may not purchase coverage through the Marketplace.
How can I get help with Medicaid or Medicare?
We work closely with the New Mexico Human Services Department and can help you find out if you are eligible for Medicaid. Our Enrollment Counselors can talk with you about your pay or income and your eligibility for Medicaid. If you’re age 65 or older and eligible for Medicare, you’re not eligible for a plan through the Marketplace. You can go to Medicare.gov
to find out how to enroll in Medicare.
